HTC Touch but with UMTS / 3G by O2 Europe!

Monday, 25 June 2007

HTC-touch-pocketPC O2 Europe is all set to enter the European market! Europe already has HTC from its online retailers namely T-Mobile and Orange, and now its O2 Europe’s turn! O2 Europe named as O2 Xda Nova is believed to be launched by this month (June 2007) and has most of the features of HTC but with a slight difference. It’s a light weight device (weighing only 120 g) and has a GSM/GPRS quad band whereas the HTC has GSM/GPRS/EDGE tri-band. Contrary to the illustration, there is no UMTS facility in this device. Being a quad band variant of HTC, this phone comes as a better saleable device in the US markets. Originally, O2 was the only mobile operator to sell HTC-enabled phones and later on operators like “3” in UK (3G/UMTS) followed suit! But the 3G/UMTS will not opt for this device due to failure of 3G support. This device is predicted to have moderate sales because of the pathetic support of EDGE in most European countries and most operators prefer 3G phones as the amount invested in the 3G network is enormous! In order to make it appealing to European clients, HTC would probably need to launch a 3G version of the HTC with features such as a camera with auto focus which has now become a necessity in Europe!
