Is Windows Mobile cheaper than Blackberry?

Thursday, 05 July 2007
A study has been undertaken by Wipro, an Indian company on behalf of Microsoft to ascertain if Windows Mobile phone or RIM Blackberry is cheaper for push email. The results indicate that the TCO of the RIM Blackberry 4.X environment is higher than that of a similar windows mobile 5.0 MSFP solution! The difference ranges from 28% more costly for a 100 user base to 20% higher for a 10,000 user base! Wipro has asked the enterprise customers how they estimated the requirements of the exchange server 2003 environment and the results indicate that 82% use the trial and error method with the production level performance monitoring to alert the IT staff of the undersized capacity. And furthermore, 18% relied on hardware and/or software vendor recommendation of initial configuration and Microsoft products (e.g. Microsoft Exchange, Windows Mobile etc)! Those enterprises planning to use mobile solutions should consider the solution provided by Microsoft!
