Here is a free software that can give you the caller information even when you don’t know him or have in your contacts list.

Net Caller ID will make a reverse phone lookup to the online databases when someone calls you and gives you the detailed information such as: full name of the caller, location and address details on a map, Caller’ relatives, FTC and other complaint history, telco name and location and so on..

Not sure if it works on 2G connections as you can’t browse or access internet during the call. If you would like to take a try, pleas report back with your experiences.
