PocketPC phones come with a limited RAM memory just like any other mobile device but the applications we run on a PocketPC are more power hungry than on any other device. Here’s a way to free up RAM without soft-reset.

It is well known that applications are actually minimized by default when you tap the “X” (close) button on the top right corner and every running application will occupy some amount of RAM. On a normal usage, when you start using more and more applications, the RAM gets almost occupied and further slows down your PocketPC, requiring a soft-reset to bring back its full power again.

But when you do a soft-reset with a lot of applications in the RAM without being terminated or closed properly, you may lose your unsaved data. Also, soft-reset will take about a minute to bring back your device in usable state.

Recently, we have seen a lot of task manager applications like Wk TaskMan which will change the “X” button function to Close the applications instead of minimizing them. Using such applications can drastically improve performance of your PocketPC on prolonged usage. However, still some applications may load some files onto the RAM memory and they may remain unloaded on your RAM.

This is where applications like CleanRAM comes handy. Made by the XDA member ronenpg, CleanRAM will clean up the wasted RAM memory saving you a lot of time in soft-resets. This works very good in the newer PocketPC phones with TouchFlo 3D installed.

CleanRAM features three levels of cleaning. Quick, Basic and Advanced purging. At the end of all cleaning, it shows you the status of current RAM memory and the amount of RAM memory it has released. The best part is, you can schedule the application to run automatically at desired intervals.

Overall, we’d say a must have application for all Windows Mobile PocketPC phones. It’s like a missing piece of Windows Mobile, just like the developer says.
