Not having push mail service on your PocketPC? Well, don't bother having one as this application checks emails from your account on a pre-defined schedule, just like the way you want!

Email Scheduler is a simple service program for Windows Mobile Pocket-PC Devices that will automatically change your email polling settings. This means that just like ActiveSync, you can now have a schedule for all of your email accounts to check for messages. Setup is a snap, just install the cab, run the email scheduler settings program, set it the way you want, and save! The rest will be handled by the program.

This is actually a 2 programs in one, first is a service that gets launched when needed and the other control's the settings. Windows Mobile Operating System can launch programs at certain times, and this takes advantage of that so there is no constantly running program (less memory consumption!). A soft restart will clear this command.

We found the program running quite well as per the description provided by the developer and overall a great utility for business users who care not to miss any email.

The Strategy Analytics Wireless Device Lab has recently released its latest end user benchmark which concludes that users find Windows Mobile Pocket Outlook to be the easiest mobile email client to configure for a POP3 email account.

Achieving a 100% success rate, Pocket Outlook also outperformed its competitors for speed and user satisfaction. The BlackBerry Internet Service suffered fatal email configuration challenges, while discoverability was an issue for Nokia Series 60.

"Participants showed a strong preference for an on-device wizard approach to email setup" according to Paul Brown, User Experience Analyst at Strategy Analytics. "Step-by-step guidance through the setup process makes it very difficult for participants to actually go wrong."

Kevin Nolan, Director of the User Experience Labs, added, "None of the participants were able to setup an email account on the BlackBerry device without assistance. Every participant felt it was counterintuitive to be required to access the web browser in order to setup a new email account." 

HP has officially announced that Microsoft Outlook (the heart and soul of all Windows Mobile-based devices) will no longer be included in the Getting Started CDs of all HP iPAQs manufactured after March 2007, and to rub salt in the wound, no official announcement has been made regarding an accompanying price reduction. Excluding Outlook essentially kills the "out of the box" experience for consumers new to Windows Mobile. No one should have to purchase a new car and acquire the wheels separately from a tyre shop, and so no one should have to purchase a new iPAQ and be forced into acquiring Outlook separately from their local software store. HP simply cannot assume that Microsoft and PC manufacturers will satisfy the other half of the equation. There are still versions of Office 2007 (albeit one) that do not include Outlook, and there are still new PCs that do not ship with Office. Add in the millions of people who already have PCs without Outlook and you can start to see a gaping hole in HP's policy.

If you're a consumer, remember that there are plenty of fish in the sea. Shop wisely. HP isn't your only option.
