Ok, here is something to try. Take your own risks. In a simple explanation, this method will force the ROM update without active sync checks when your iPaq is in Parrot or upgrade mode.

First put your iPaq into Parrot mode by pressing "power" button, then all 4 bottom buttons (calendar contacts mail today) together and then reset. In this mode your iPaq will stay in the main splash screen probably with hp logo.

Next in your Computer, press start > run > regedit
This opens the Registry editor. In HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ROMUpdateUtility\HB20
1) create a dword key called "ByPassBootloaderCheck" with the value 1
2) create string a key called UpdateFile, with the value
"C:\iPAQ\SP26263\H2B11020uo.nbf" (or whatever your rom file name).

Restart ROMUpdateUtility, and it will flash your iPaq directly from parrot mode and without checking for active sync.

Regards,
Carty..

The iPAQ did not go into 'Parrot' mode when I pressed power button and then all the four buttons together. Hence I could not proceed further.

Actually you need to press all 4 buttons, the power button (5 buttons total) and while pressing, do a s0ft-reset.

I did the way you suggested, pressing all the five buttons and simulataneously resetting (with power button pressed it becomes hard-reset). The PPC did show the hp logo but immediately the screen changed to Windows Mobile as it appears after hard reset! A soft-reset after this resulted in the same screen!

Im attaching a file. Unzip it, copy EnterBL.exe to your iPaq and execute it there. This file should hopefully put your iPaq in parrot mode.

You can copy the file into your iPaq either via Storage card reader or direct download in iPaq since you cannot connect to Desktop.

Regards,
Carty..
File Attachment:
File Name: EnterBL.zip
File Size: 2018

I have downloaded the file. Have ordered for a memory card reader/writer, which I am expecting within a couple of days, to copy and transfer the file to the iPAQ. Shall inform you of the results.

Mohsin
