Do you have a GPS enabled Pocket PC and would like to track your device live on a Desktop PC? Tracky would help you do it. Read on to find out how or to read our review.. How does it work? After Installation, when the application is started, you're promted with a screen (see Figure 1) asking for registration. This is different from activating the software to full version. Here you provide your email address and a password(not the same password for the email id). The information is then used to create an account on their server to send you information such as the tracking url for the desktop and other instructions. Be sure that you have an internet connection such as GPRS/EDGE/3G on your Pocket PC, else you cannot use the important features of the software and you end up on a screen as shown in figure 2. Then you land up on a main screen with few options and you need to choose TrackMe from the Tools menu as shown in figure 3. You can now see that asks for a PRO license if you need your tracking to be private using a PIN code (see figure 4). Else your location is seen public on their website and even then the trial works only for a continuous 15minutes. Next comes the TrackMe Config screen. As mentioned before, if you've activated the PRO license, you should be able to specify a Nick name and a PIN code of your choice as shown in figure 5. Then in the Status press as shown in figure 6 to enable tracking option. Now you can see that to every few specified seconds, the GPS data is being uploaded to their servers and thats about it with the Pocket PC side. Coming to the Desktop, open http://www.trackthisout.com/TrackMe2.html and you will see the list of people online at the left. Some are shown with a lock image next to their nickname which means that they have pro license and they cannot be tracked by public until the PIN number is entered. Type in your nickname and PIN number, then you can track yourself or your Pocket PC with Google Maps as the source image. Trainer Tool Trackalyzer tool Geocoder tool And finally, being priced at 30 Euros might be a little expensive if you're going to use just the offline features. But note that this is a one time payment and no more supscription fee required. So if you need a solution of tracking your device, then go ahead with it! Although Tracky is primarily an offline navigation tool, it also has some features that only work online, i.e., with an internet connection. The following review specifically focuses on the online tracking features, which leaves the offline features unaddressed. To get insight in the offline features, note that a free trial version is available at www.trackthisout.com. The free trial version only runs for 15 minutes, but it can be restarted as many times as you like. |
