Garmin Mobile 10 1 Year, 7 Months ago Karma: 0
Ok I bought this GPS receiver and read the manual. The result I have no idea what I am supposed to do for maps. It says I have to purchase them from Garmin's website. I was wondering if I had Windows live search or the Google Maps apps for WM5 would I be able to combine that with my GPS and use them both? Also is anybody familiar with this device? I tried to pair the Bluetooth Gps with my PC but the code isnt 0000? Any ideas ???

Personally I haven't had a chance to use a GPS device for the reason that my country is far behind technology of GPS. No service providers here. So I didn't explore into the field.

To the little knowledge I know, I think Google and Live Maps should be using satelite images which are real. But the maps which you purchase for GPS units will be graphical and works with co-ordinates sent by the GPS unit.

Regarding the pairing code, you need to refer the manual as it is definite to vary.

PS: Its a chance for you to educate me with whole of this GPS

Regards,
Cart..

OK with a liitle more investigating, my Garmin device gives me the GPS signal and the maps (Which I had to unlock from the software cd that came with it) I have to send from my PC to my PPC. I live in Florida so I sent the map of florida to my SD card in my 8525. About 40mb for the whole state. So to cover my country probably would take up my 1gb card. I believe there are some GPS units that you upload the maps to it internally.

Yea, more detailed Maps should definitely take up huge space. But I don't think the GPS unit could hold any map because they can only send the co-ordinates such as x,y latitude.., from the satellites link. These co-ordinates are linked with the map image and the pocket pc displays the associated portion of the map! This is my assumption and may not be true. Correct me if Im wrong.

One thing I always wanted to know is, you start using your device right out of the box or need to get the service on some kind of subscriptions? like GSM?

Regards,
Carty..

Yes right out of the box it worked. Once I loaded the maps into my SD card everything worked fine.
It takes a few minutes for the gps to locate in the beginning then after that it works perfect.
I think they probably charge for other maps of other countries, but it is a one time payment. The maps I have came with the the GPS unit. I havent signed up for anything either so I know there isnt no monthly fee. As soon as I start up the program for the GPS on my Hermes it automatically turns on my bluetooth and connects with my GPS unit. Once I close the program it turns off the bluetooth. The only thing is it takes up alot of RAM. But normally if you are using GPS you are gonna be on the road or on the go so you dont really need to do anything else at the moment. I actually tested my RAM by starting oiher apps while running the GPS program. A little slower but still decent speed. Didnt mean to write so much but figured if you wanted details I have received more than enough answers to my questions its only fair for me to answer yours ;D
