[Old] Surviving Hard resets - Ext.ROM method 1 Year, 11 Months ago Karma: 3
The software can be made to survive Hard-resets by adding certain files to your Ext.ROM. Ext.ROM Unlocking and tools are available here

After purchasing the software, you will have the following files in your Pocket PC' Windows folder
RecordDUI_UTA.txt
utaconfig
uta v3.exe
mesuta
Tapilib.dll [Added on 30th Sept] --------Document edit details..
& UTA v3.lnk in Windows/Startup folder

1.Take a copy of these files in your PC.
2.Download WinCE cab manager. Trial version would be enough for the job. This software helps in creating cab files.
3.Add the above files to be placed in Windows folder
4.UTA v3.lnk should be specified to be placed in Windows/Startup folder
5.Finally you can build the cab.

This cab should be added to your Ext.ROM and a small edit to the config file of Ext.ROM(present in Ext.ROM folder) should be made to install the copied cab.

Alternative method: [Added on 15th Dec] --------Document edit details..
If you find creating cab files a little too complicated, we can suggest another methog if your Ext.ROM has a config.txt or any config file which has the list of cabs that will be installed after a Hard-reset. The file can be found after Un-hiding the Ext.ROM.

Add the folllwing to the config file and copy the above listed files to the Ext.ROM folder.
CPY1:Extended_ROMRecordDUI_UTA.txt
CPY2:WindowsRecordDUI_UTA.txt
CPY1:Extended_ROMutacfg
CPY2:Windowsutacfg
CPY1:Extended_ROMmesuta
CPY2:Windowsmesuta
CPY1:Extended_ROMTapiLib.dll
CPY2:WindowsTapiLib.dll
CPY1:Extended_ROMUta v3.exe
CPY2:WindowsUta v3.exe
CPY1:Extended_ROMUTA v3.lnk
CPY2:WindowsStartUpUTA v3.lnk

In WM5 devices an additional file has to be added to disable the signing security warning. It can be found in our Free Downloads section.

So finally you can lock the Ext.ROM back and test it out with a Hard-reset. If you are not clear with the above process or stuck up anywhere in the middle, just post a thread here and we will be glad to provide the best help of us.

Sorry for the delay. The Signing security warning can be disabled by installing this cab

Note: This cab should be added to the Ext.ROM and made to install before all other cabs.
Hello Carty,

I just registered here to make some questions before buying Ultimate Theft Alert:

I own an Asus P525 wich it hasn't Ext.ROM , how to survive to hard reset?
Is there any other solution to keep it after hard reset?

Thanks.

Hello Mr.Juan Antonio.

Thank you for contacting us. Since your PDA does not have an Ext.ROM, its unfortunate that the software cannot be added to it. However, the Ext.ROM addition was mainly for WM2003 devices where the device goes in for a hard-reset on loosing the battery. However WM5 devices come with persistent memory and its absurd for the thief to perform a hard-reset by chance.

Regards,
Carty..
