Read more to find out some nice tips for keeping your data secure.
PIM Data: Contacts, SMS, Appointments..
When it comes to Contacts, Tasks, Appointments and other PIM data, they are ofcourse synchronized to your Desktop' Outlook but chances are very likely that you have a long time to go before you can connect it to the Desktop especially when you're a frequent flyer. Obviously you can't miss your contacts until you reach the Desktop. This is where you'll find the importance of this freeware utility called PIM Backup. Currently in version 2.8, it is so good to be free. Its fast and powerfull too. Apart from Contacts, it can even backup your call logs, appointments, tasks and SMS. While the SMS restore function may not work correctly due to some conflicts with the Inbox being open at the time or the extended protection and restricted access to the SMS database file, Contacts and other data ofcourse work perfect.
Softwares and Files:
If you're a pro user, definitely you might have your Pocket PC loaded with loads of free and commercial softwares which you may never miss each day. You would have configured and customized it for your needs after a lot of experiments and works. Unfortunately setting this up again right from scratch after a hard-reset is definitely like a pain in the a**. Sure you might have experienced it. Here comes the importance of softwares like Sprite Backup and SPB Backup.
Although Sprite Backup is good, we recommend SPB Backup for its better stability and easy usability. You can even schedule automatic backup of data every week or on daily basis as per your requirements. But the best or must to take backup is this way:
1. Hard-reset your Pocket PC so it's free from all junk and set to default settings.
2. Adjust the Settings as per your requirements.
3. Install all your favourite applications.
4. Register/activate your applications.
5. Configure and customize all of them.
6. Set the best theme for you need and a good ring-tone.
7. Synchronize with Desktop for Contacts, Tasks and other PIM data.
8. Note down your GPRS, connections and other operator settings.
9. After all these steps, take a backup immediately.
This backup will be the best in performance as you may know that junk accumulates in your Pocket PC or Desktop PC as you keep using it and whenever you find your device running slow, you can easily hard-reset it and restore this backup.
Storage Card Data:
If you find a file that is very valuable, such as your financial data or other important data whose file size is not very big, prefer using the Main Memory of your Pocket PC. Since the Main Memory is Flash based, it might not get corrupt unlike SD card which tend to corrupt easily on shakes and other stressfull works. But if you rely your Main Memory for all the files, you still have chances on hard-resets as mentioned above and moreover you dont have enough memory to hold them all. So Storage card is definitely a must have tool for a great part of your Data. How to keep it secure? Here comes our own software SD Sync which can synchronize your SD Card data to Desktop PC whenever you connect it. This should definitely be a must have if you use your SD card for large data.
Hope we have showed you how easily you can keep your data safe to the max extent. These backup applications may be worthless initially. But trust us, like you know the real fear only when your in danger. Likewise, you will know the real value of your data only when you loose them. Go ahead, take these vaccines: PIM Backup, SPB Backup and SD Sync. Together, they make you feel secure!
