Where to Install Softwares on Pocket PC

Sunday, 02 December 2007

So you've learnt how to Install Applications or Softwares on your Pocket PC, else learn it here. Now you might be confused whether to install the softwares either on the Device Memory or on the Storage card. Don't worry, we will give you our suggestions.

First you need to know that your Pocket PC has a very limited built-in Memory and you need to conserve it for optimized usage and performance. And the Storage Card requires a little battery power to access it and so it is switched off automatically on StandBy or Suspend mode of a Pocket PC. And also, accessing the files on a Storage card will relatively be slower than that of the files stored on Pocket PC.

Think you get an overall idea of how things work. So now, proceeding further, there are some applications that you use all the time while the rest on occations. Applications that run all the time are like the Task Managers, File Explorers, Battery Indicators and some.. These applications are better when Installed on Pocket PC Main Memory.

Today Screen Plug-Ins
Any application that has a Today or Mainscreen Plug-In will obviously be running all the time and these applications are better when installed onto Main Memory so they work faster and immediately after Waking up of the Device.

File Managers
As the default File Explorer may not be that powerful like My Computer in your Desktop, you may consider using third-party applications like Resco' File Explorer. These can be installed either to Phone Memory or Storage card. But when Installed to Main Memory, you can swap your Storage Cards and access them through it.

Music Players
Windows Media Player is bundled, but if you use other players like Pocket Music Player, Conduits Pocket Player or CorePlayer, the same principle of File Manager will apply. Imagine if you have different Storage cards filled with songs, if your Player is Installed to Main Memory, they will be able to play music on different Storage Cards when you swap them

Games
These usually take up huge memory and not mandatory to be installed on Main Memory. So always choose Storage card as the Installation directory on your Pocket PC.

Hope you've got an idea on where to install the files for optimum performance. Anytime, our Experts Help section is open for your request.
