Changing cases to the same hardware and software may not work for a very long time. HTC did an impressive job on the TouchFlo 3D which created a hype close to the iPhone but the underrated fact of windows mobile preceded its short living. Now comes the FireStone.

Touch HD is recognized by BlackStone as a codename and FireStone will be its successor from HTC. Let’s compare and see what HTC has got for us this time. External build quality and form factor looks rich and better than the Touch HD which was blandly a huge device and the camera beveled at the back in Touch HD was disappointing to many. FireStone gets a clean shave now.

No special customizations like TouchFlo this time but instead we get Windows Mobile 6.5 on the rocks. Maybe it’s too early for HTC to start customizing Windows Mobile 6.5 as it isn’t officially out in stores to hear the real response and feedback from end-users although they don’t really care about them.
Touch HD had a 3.8 inch display but this one will have a slightly smaller 3.6 inch size display with the same WVGA resolutions. This makes HTC to boast that the display is still 0.1 inch bigger than the iPhone, Lol.. Anyways, no multi touch support yet if that teases your senses.

Performance, this is where you can see some slight improvements. Touch HD had only 528 Mhz processor but the FireStone will have a slightly better, 600 Mhz Qualcomm 8250 processor. We promise this doesn’t make any big difference to you, unless they pack in some nice native graphics drivers for smooth scrolling, transparency and other transitions. That includes the support for HD video playbacks too which this device doesn’t promise to offer.

Networks and connectivity standards are pretty much the same and it would be lame to expect something new here until a new 4G kinda technology gets invented to put internet speeds at sky high with rock bottom prices. Apart from the above, there is no big difference to speak about. Let’s await the hands on experience after HTC offers us in the near future.

It’s sure a well known fact that HTC has done a wonderful job with the TouchFLO 3D or Sense UI in their latest Pocket PC phones like the Touch HD2. Maxycy from xda has taken it to a new level in customizing every element of it.

If there was no HTC TouchFLO 3D, Windows Mobile 6.5 would have been thrown into the trash long ago. It was the heavy customizations done by HTC and other manufacturers over Windows Mobile that kept it alive, but Microsoft does not want the same to happen with Windows Mobile 7.

TouchFLO 3D user interface was a revolutionary creation by HTC for Windows Mobile PocketPC phones and by developing it little by little through time, HTC has gone so far to the new HTC Sense UI that looks incredible but available only on their Android phones. Now, a new, next generation UI depicting a virtual diary or book is being created by HTC now.

Although HTC has improved the TouchFlo 3D to look and function as close to the original HTC Sense UI which is slightly better and works a lot smoother as seen in android powered HTC Hero, you will be able to get it only on the newer phones like HTC Leo. Here’s an alternative.

Previously, on June 24, when HTC announced a major press conference, we thought the second generation Touch HD will be coming but HTC presented a whole new dimension with the Android powered Hero. Here comes the Touch HD 2 with Windows Mobile of course.

Just about 10 days to go for the official Windows Mobile 6.5 PocketPC phones to come on sale. Wait a little longer and you can get this huge bad boy from HTC.

HTC slightly disappointed us with the fact that Touch HD 2 won’t have Windows Mobile in it. At the same time, tries to impress us with the new Touch 2 PocketPC loaded with Windows Mobile 6.5 and TouchFLO 3d like Sense UI, but fails.
