By default, the new Programs menu when you press the Start button on Windows Mobile 6.5 contains 3 column of icons. If you’re Pocket PC has a large screen and would like to make use of the available room by increasing the number of icon columns, here is a special hack.

Having more columns will reduce the icon size and the text labels under them too. While the 3 column layout gives a wide spacing between each icon for easy finger based operation, a 4 column grid layout will reduce the need for scrolling up and down. Use the 5 column layout only on larger Pocket PC phones like the Touch HD 2.

This hack is done by modifying the registry keys so a backup before is essential if anything goes wrong. Fortunately, you don’t need to make these registry changes manually as the tweaks have been packed onto an easy to install .cab file format.
