If you have used normal phones like Nokia, you might have probably heard about the feature called Cell Info Display which conveys any message from the Network via a Special format. Cell carriers sometimes use this function to show you the area location based on the nearest tower that you're currently connected to.

In Pocket PC devices, since the Today screen is much different from the normal phones, you cannot get this information directly. Instead, these messages are delivered as Notifications. This option is however disabled by default and you can enable it easily from
Start > Settings > Phone > More: Under "Broadcast Channels" put a tick next to Enable, then hit the Settings button > Check "Receive channel list", Select "All" for language or your preference. Tap "New" and enter the Channel Number, and any name you want! If you don't know the channel you want then, enter 050 for Channel Number which is the default for Cell Broadcast info.

Please note that the device wakes up every time the new message is delivered and the notification prompt might be real annoying. But if you use BatteryStatus plug-in (found here), it sits in your Today screen showing you usefull information such as Battery % and one among them is ofcourse Cell Info display.

Final Note:
Cell Broadcast consumes more power. Your radio-module permanently receives CBMS and on a transition of such message, the Pocket PC wakes up to process the message. Even if the display is off, the device is on and the CPU is working until the system gets idle again!
