While some newer Pocket PC devices such as O2 mini S can be turned off completely by holding on the Power button, however most devices doesn't allow this. Holding the power button will turn of the Back light alone.

If you would like to turn off still to save some juice in the battery, activate Flight mode by clicking on the Network icon in the Startbar and then press power button. This way, the phone turns off and the Windows goes in to Standby mode!

My stepson just bought an HP ipaq HW6515 and is convinced that something is wrong with it because he can't fully shut it down without taking out the battery; if I understand you (and other info I've seen on this issue...), he's mistaken and the device is working normally. Please enlighten me.

Welcome to the pocket pc forums. I guess your stepson could have bought this HP iPaq HW6515 pocket pc at a great deal over ebay or somewhere as it is a very old device running on Windows Mobile 2003se. And right, WM2003se or Windows Mobile versions prior to WM6, cannot be turned off completely. The only way is to turn on flight mode and put the device to suspend/stand-by state.

Regards,
Carty..

You are indeed correct; he bought it on Ebay for 150 bucks. Thank you for your help.

One more thing, if that is true, is it possible to upgrade the OS?

No, I don't think HO will ever give an update to this device but it's anytime better to start off with a Windows Mobile 2003se before getting an high end WM6 device like the HTC Touch HD or Diamond.

Carty..
