On October 6h, Acer, the same company who acquired Eten about a year ago, will be officially launching the F1 PocketPC and it will be the most powerful windows mobile PocketPC for the price they offer.

6th October is the date for official Windows Mobile 6.5 handsets tog o on sale. The same date when other Windows Mobile 6.5 handsets like the HTC Imagio from Verizon comes on sale.

By power we mean raw speed of 1Ghz offered by the new Snapdragon processor from Qualcomm. Interestingly, this is not the first device to use this high end processor. We have seen Toshiba TG01 with the same but it is quite expensively prices at about $700 USD approx and we even have the HTC Leo coming up and it will invariably be priced high again, but Leo has some nice customizations with the new TouchFLO that kinda looks like the HTC Sense UI in Hero. If you still search for a much cheaper alternative with the same processor, you shall end up with the Zine HD but that isn’t a phone or a PocketPC per se.

Coming back to the Acer F1, it features a 3.8” touch screen (no multi touch, HTC leo has!) with WVGA resolutions and a 5 mega pixel auto focus camera with LED flash, a 3.5 mm head phone jack and all other standard stuffs like HSDPA, WiFi, Bluetooth and so on.. The price? Less than $500 USD, around $480 USD without contracts.

Verdict: If you need a PocketPC with the plain Windows Mobile 6.5 on a powerful 1Ghz processor, go for it. Else, if you need some nice eye candy effects, wait for HTC Leo. Toshiba? Ahh, not so impressive.
