Free Push Email For PocketPC

Wednesday, 03 June 2009

push email By default, Microsoft’ own Hotmail supports push email to PocketPC phones and the other way to get a better push email functionality is through an hosted Exchange server account. Most corporates have it on their servers but it is too expensive for other individuals. Here we have a free service for you.

Not ours actually, but came across while browsing xda-dev community. Alol.net.br seems to be offering a free exchange service accounts and many PocketPc users are quite happy with their service.

Unfortunately, it does not allow other email accounts but only their own accounts. So if you don’t mind changing your email address, you can try their service for free. You can still forward your regular email id to the new address and get the emails pushed straight to your PocketPC just after they arrive.

They offer 1GB space and support attachments upto 100 Mb. That is more than enough for a free service we’d say. Similar plans of exchange service costs around 5 USD a month from other providers. If you’re interested in their free service, you can signup and start using.

Store Emails on Storage Card

pocket pc mailFirst don't get over excited as the hack I'm gonna explain is for Storing the E-Mails which are Synchronized from your PC' Outlook via ASync and not those directly downloaded via POP3 accounts in Pocket PC. Anyway this is of very helpfull as it saves lot of those precious little memory.

Well, its just a simple Registry Hack away,

  1. Create a folder in your Storage card, for storing the mails. I used Storage card\Mails
  2. Add the String PropertyPath under HKCU\Software\Microsoft\MAPI
  3. Enter the above path for mail folder in the Value field
  4. Soft-reset your device.

As you may know that the Today plug-ins load even before the Storage card gets the juice of power, it clashes with the hack and so you may need to Disable the Messaging Today Plug-in if it reverts back.

I will add this hack to Registry tweaker PRO . Those who have already purchased, enjoy with free upgrade!
