HTC Netbook is coming soon

Sunday, 08 February 2009

htc netbook HTC is preparing a NetBook for you.

The latest hype in the tech world are definitely the NetBooks. Laptops were widely called NoteBook and the power of internet that people intend to have anywhere on the move has forced manufacturers to make the NoteBooks smaller and mobile, ultimately the NetBooks were born.

While Acer, HP and Sony already have a slew of netbooks selling, HTC won't let the opportunity slip away. Although we saw the HTC Shift some time back capable of running both Windows Mobile as well as Windows Vista, it was totally forgotten and ignored for the hefty price tag of over 1000 USD, now they try to do something cheaper by using Intel' Atom processor specially meant for powering NetBooks. Hopefully they bring out a SexyBookNetBook.

samsung-mondiSo, HTC will not be the only makers of big windows mobile devices like the Shift and Athena. Samsung takes Windows Mobile to the next level by packing it into a WiMax enabled Internet tablet device, the Mondi! Looks like the Nokia 810 WiMax Internet tablet which apparantly failed in the end.

HTC Shift in USA

htc shiftHTC Shift is the first device to run both Windows Vista and Windows Mobile together! Starting March 24th 2008, HTC Shift will be available from Sprint with CDMA Evdo connectivity. The price tag or 1500 USD might be worth it if you were looking for a much portable laptop. And there's already as hack to release the full potential of Windows Mobile overcoming HTC' limitations.

Full Windows Mobile on HTC Shift

htc shiftDue to licensing issues, HTC stripped most parts of Windows Mobile from their HTC Shift which was announced to have both Vista and Windows Mobile together. The device is not yet widely available in the market but the hackers have already found out a way to unlock the full potential of the device through e-mail attachments and now you can enjoy full Windows Mobile functions on a Shift whenever you get bored of Vista performing slow or due to gruesomely sucking batter life. If you would like to know how, read it here (includes a video explaining how to do it)

"Hybrid" HTC Shift to be launched at GITEX!

Hybrid-htc-shiftDown the ages, there’s been a shift from the usual desktop to laptop and now to non connected PDA and cell phones to finally the Pocket PC’s which converge all these into a single device! There have been many experiments to create different forms of these devices, but the most preferred options are the laptops for web browsing, business applications etc and the connected mobile device for PDA and multimedia uses. These two forms have different capacities and limitations!
HTC, the pioneers in the mobile arena, has now ventured to combine the two platforms and has come out with the HTC Shift! The “Hybrid” Shift is powered by 2 OS on 2 different processors. It will not only run Windows Vista Business but also the Intel Santa Rosa A110 processor with a memory of 1GB DDR2 RAM and a 40 GB hard drive. The device will utilize the 400 MHz processor from Qualcomm while operating Windows Mobile 6 Professional and has a memory of 64 MB of RAM and 128 MB of ROM. The “Hybrid” Shift is all set to be launched in the GITEX at Dubai and is bound to cost $1500!

HTC Shift to support Windows Mobile and Vista!

The HTC Shift is the very first UMPC device which is powered by the Windows Vista along with Windows Mobile simultaneously! HTC prefers to call this as “Snap VUE” which enables the user to operate a mix of Windows Mobile 6 Classics and Professional version independently apart from Windows Vista. This adds Windows Mobile viewer options to Windows Vista where there is instant access to PIM and e-mail accounts even when the pocket PC is actually in the switch off mode. The HTC Shift can be powered by Windows Mobile mode for more than 5 days and can be accessed by the Windows start key! But while using the Windows Vista, the battery time is only for 3 hours! But sources have it that the HTC Shift is bound to be the most interesting device of this year! So, HTC users will be waiting to get their hands on this beauty!

Compal set to launch UMPC with Windows CE!

compal-pocketPCWith the prototype tag, a device from Compal can run Windows CE 5.0 than the XP or Vista (which depletes the battery)! Called the Ultra Mobile Device or UMD, this portable device doubles up as a Smartphone. It runs effectively with HSDPA and has a 532MHz Freescale i.MX31 processor and 256MB of DDR RAM. With 512 MB of NAND Flash memory and SIM card slot (with a miniSD slot for excess media) this device is multi faceted! The 4.3 inch WVGA display, a slide out QWERTY key board, trackpad, built in speaker and microphone gives his device a sleek look! This device also supports a Wi-Fi and flaunts a 1.3 megapixel CMOS camera! The USB provides connectivity with a headphone jack (which enables almost 5 hours of battery on a meager five watt power usage). The mandatory media playing software and Skype applications are supported by this device! Ironically, there’s no release date put forward by Compal (not even a tentative one!) but there’s hope that it would eventually be launched!

HTC Athena, UMPC like Pocket PC?

htc_athena pocket pc

We heard from pdaclub.pl that HTC is working on a new Pocket PC Athena which sports the look of an UMPC. This device highlights a detachable keypad which can be slided behind the device too and can be placed on desk such as in the above image to give the feel of working on a mini laptop.

The device will have a 400 Mhz processor and will be a triband GSM/GPRS/EDGE. And a 2MP camera too! Lets wait for it.
