Last year HTC made a bang with the Touch Diamond revolutionizing how people look at Windows Mobile and this year HTC pushes things a little further and unveils the second generation with Touch Diamond 2.

On the outfit, the black glossy plastic finish has now moved on to an elegant metallic. Within, it's got a Wide VGA 3.6" screen capable of doing 480 x 800 hi-resolutions. The camera is now 5 mega-pixels. Some new stuff is the Touch Zoom bar just below the touch screen. Actually it is the capacitive touch panel with a circular smart touch sensitive area in the previous version of Touch Diamond which is now made flat for sliding fingers.

We also notice some improvements on the TouchFLO 3D, matching the WVGA screen with more room for displaying information and extra button controls, however it still has the same Qualcomm® MSM7200A™ at 528 MHz speeds, 512MB ROM and 288MB RAM. After listening to us, HTC has finally improved the battery life and also replaced the Internal Storage with micro-sd expansion slots but people are still worried for the lack of the universal 3.5 mm audio jack.

Other, interesting features within the Touch Diamond 2 is the new Push Internet technology to load a couple of your favorite websites on desired preset times just like RSS but in HTC style. And the new Straight Talk technology, which allows for easy transitions between text or email communications and regular or group phone calls, letting you immediately initiate a conference call with, say, the recipients of an email thread.

We do notice some serious flaws with this device such as the lack of D-pad like in HTC Touch HD, maybe HTC thought their TouchFLO 3D interface would alleviate the use of the standard D-pad feature of Windows Mobile.

The HTC Touch Diamond 2 will be available to customers across major European and Asian markets in early Q2 2009 with broader global availability coming later this year.

HTC’s Windows Mobile 7 Smartphone Touch Diamond3 which was named HTC Obsession previously will come only with AT & T and T- Mobile which means Verizon and Sprint are out of the Game and will be a GSM only phone, as the CDMA Diamond last year was sold so badly.

It’s sure a well known fact that HTC has done a wonderful job with the TouchFLO 3D or Sense UI in their latest Pocket PC phones like the Touch HD2. Maxycy from xda has taken it to a new level in customizing every element of it.

Sure we have seen a lot of third party calculator applications that have better looks and could perform more intensive scientific calculations. But for those who just need the basic calculating functionalities but with a better UI or looks, HTC has made the customizations for ya.

HTC Pure is At&t’ re-branded version of the Touch Diamond 2 which has Windows Mobile 6.5 out of the box. 

Although HTC has improved the TouchFlo 3D to look and function as close to the original HTC Sense UI which is slightly better and works a lot smoother as seen in android powered HTC Hero, you will be able to get it only on the newer phones like HTC Leo. Here’s an alternative.

At&t announced their re-branded Touch Pro 2 as Tilt 2 last week and now confirms it’s younger brother too. The re-branded Touch Diamond 2 as At&t Pure.

Many have noted that the recently launched Touch Diamond 2 wont indicate full charge LED notification and HTC has now issued a fix.
